T minus how much!?

Kicking off the training year with a little run and a little R&R.  Ready for a year of hard work, note I said hard work, not a hard year---did that this year!  I will try to post a lot to help with the motivation and sticking to training.  Right now--first up--St George Half Marathon/5K in January.  Marquee and  Tempe International on the books too.

Great running route, on our getaway, I didn't bring
my Garmin, just plugged along with Strava, still
seem to mess up the settings.

Training revamp, I'm feeling better already.  Every weekend for the past month has been spent trying to get the Willy Wonka house remodeled and ready for Kev and Ally, we are running out of time.  When we bought the house we thought, easy peasy, paint the whole house; it is a serious chocolate cave they painted everything, even the ceilings brown, paint the kitchen cabinets, order some pretty new appliances and we should be set.  Ha!  I won't go into detail but let's just say the remodeling budget has been seriously increased.  Needless to say the house revamping has had a serious effect on my IMAZ training.  I think I've got it under control but......in the meantime we need to quit calling this the Wonka house, how about "Ski House" sounds a little nicer and Alta and Snowbird are just half an hour or so down the road.

How many gears do I have left?

Best run I've had in quite awhile this weekend and a fairly good ride.  I got up Serpentine in my big ring and may or may not  have a had a few gears left at the wall at Caroline.  It has been a good training week.

Happy

Happiness is hill repeats in the rain.  Really I only got 1/2 hour in before the downpour.  I would have continued on but the downhill on the wet road was too scary for me.  Where're my guts?  Sticking to my training plan pretty much.

The last few months have been tough ones for the Wright family there have been way too many difficult "events" for both Craig and me.  Sometimes I wonder, often I wonder why I keep trying to do triathlons.  I ask myself that when I get up early every morning to swim and run, and when I get on my bike in the evening.  I ask the same question when I go for a long ride and would rather be cleaning the kitchen and catching up on the laundry.  Yeah, you know I'm really wondering when I'd rather do housework. I lose motivation as I enjoy the more important things in life, visiting with my mom, watching my grandkids do fun things and relaxing by the pool, or eating hot dogs and ice cream instead of chicken and steamed veggies.
But just as I'm about to give it up something inside says, Melinda, just give it one more go and I'm trying again.  I don't know the reason, I wish I understood myself better. Even my coach was a little concerned as she looked at my logs.  There were several large gaps in training, you know life, but for now I am plodding ahead.  IMAZ is on and I am plodding.

Slow water--

Is there such a thing?  The water just seemed slow this morning, couldn't be me!!

Ride Done! Let the birthday parties begin!

We had an hour and a half ride on the schedule this morning, we got it done--SB SART, Craig wasn't too happy with my lack of adventure, but I really like this ride, especially for IMAZ training.  I also wanted to hit Wal-Mart on the way home.  I bought trucks for the top of the boys cake yesterday but I way overestimated, they were huge!  I am hoping they don't think it's too juvenile.  I'm looking forward to the rest of the day, the grandkids minus one are on their way.  The boys picked Chick Fil A for lunch, then pool party and hot dogs for dinner.  Does that sound like a great day!  We got the boys each a kayak for their birthday, I can't wait to see them out on the lake.
Speaking of the "minus one" have I mentioned we'll have them soon, I can hardly wait.  They're leaving Maine in about three weeks.  We get to have them until Kev starts dental school in August.  Yay!

Southern Utah Half Marathon

Runners Series Race #2 done.  This was a new race for us, we usually do the Shamrock 10K but this fit into everyone's schedule better.  It sprinkled a little at the start but turned into the perfect running day.  I like this race.  They bus you from Bloomington to Washington and it's pretty much downhill all the way.  We would definitely do it again.
Mission accomplished we have our guaranteed admission to St G marathon.  We played mini golf with the boys and they played arcade games, had a great late lunch and now just hanging out at the condo, enjoying family.

Cupcakes as prerace energizer!

We are in Tempe, this time no dental conferences, just fun.  Well fun if you call OWS fun.  We do our swim and then plan to get a loop of the Beeline done, hurry home to get ready for the grandkids and Easter.  Busy, fun weekend!

New Bike in the Family

So the Wright family has not been acquiring as many bikes as of late, well you know with exception of Kyle's two fixies, stolen at Davis, then there was Brad's new REI something kind of bike, mountain bikes for Kyle and Kael for Christmas, oh yeah and the garage sale fixie, hmmm any others? I almost forgot Brent's WalMart fixie  and Kyran's Strider too.   So yeah I guess we are still buying bikes.
The exciting new is Dad has ordered a new road bike!  Yay, it should be in on Thursday which means I think he's dragging me out on a very long ride on Saturday.  Today I swam 2000 meters and biked a loop of Sunset.  I'm looking forward to dad's new bike and getting back to training.

8 Mile Run Done!

We had a very productive weekend in Arizona.  Craig had a class, and fortunately there was an Athleta store nearby.  I love Athleta, don't even ask how much I spent.  We got a years worth of planning done and this morning we headed off to Tempe Town Lake for a short run.  I either needed to do a three mile run which I skipped earlier in the week or the regular scheduled 8 miles.  I opted for the eight miles--yay, it's done.

Let the "unofficial" training begin...

Off to AZ tonight, Craig has a CE class, and then some fun.  I haven't got a coach yet, I'm thinking I would like to have that all figured out by the time changes, for now I'm doing a half marathon plan for the Southern Utah Half in April.
