Well...
I think he may have convinced Kyle to join him in the crazy. I used to say 50 bucks and the fear of failure was all I needed to train like crazy for whatever event. Now, even though the ante is gigantically more, it just doesn't motivate, and the fear of failure...meh, you win some you lose some.

7K
7K Crossfit this morning with Ker, it was hard, especially the second run. After Crossfit we took Kael to Cross country practice and then went to the grand opening of the new Maple Hills trails. It's a super nice private trail system, there are plans for a lot more trails. We did the main School Loop, we walked it, it wouldn't be too hard to ride although my cardio is not so great right now and I would probably have to walk a few sections. (Oh yeah, of course those are my abs in the first pic!)

Running Up and Down the Mountain
Sounds like impressive amounts of training, right! Ok a little clarification--running up and down the mountain in a vehicle. I really didn't need more projects, but I needed a new place to park mountain bikes (that's my excuse anyway). The other cabin project seems to be on interminable hold getting approvals from the Forest Service and this one is close to home and to Kerri, let's see what other reasons I can think of to justify it. We could probably put it on Airbnb when we get all the work done, but I think it'll get a lot of use.
First project, new electrical panel box, or I should say obtaining the permit for the box. I'm not sure how long that will take. The propane man is coming tomorrow to do the safety inspection and then the next project will be to get off of propane and run the natural gas to the street. The kitchen is "quaint", I actually kinda like it, it has a lot of character, but will be on the to do list as it's really the best place to put a washer and dryer which means redoing the pantry...which means redoing all of the cabinets, which means appliances and countertops too. When the kids were little one of my favorite children's books was "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie". I think it's really an adult book and seems to sum up all those messy projects that just lead to an explosion of more projects. The bathroom has really low countertops that everyone who has seen it has pointed out, funny I think they're just right.
This also has magically answered the question I asked right before all of this Covid mess--Ikon or Epic, Ikon it is. Lets hope Alterra resorts open this year. Lets hope everything opens and soon.

Ladders
A.
Every 2 minutes, for 16 minutes (8 sets):
3-Position Clean
(high hang, mid-thigh, and then from the floor)
B.
In 12 minutes, complete as many ladders as possible from 1 to 5 reps of Hang Power Clean (135/95)
Every time the barbell hits the floor, perform 5 Push-Ups
(Example – Perform 1 Hang Power Clean, drop the barbell, perform 5 push-ups and rest as needed; then perform 2 Hang Power Cleans, drop the bar, perform 5 push-ups and rest as needed; then perform 3 Hang Power Cleans, drop the bar, perform 5 push-ups and rest as needed; etc…up to 5 Hang Power Cleans, then start again at 1).
*Scoring: One completed ladder is one round
It's just a tricky way of saying, "You're going to do so many pushups your arms will fall off."

Friday-Saturday-Sunday
Saturday--
So some time ago I convinced Ker to do a Women Only mountain bike class at Skypark, the day of reckoning came and we went. We had some time before the class so we rode up (no lifts) to the start of Sleigh Ride, rode it to Arrow, dodged a bunch of features and made it down. I slammed my hand in the van slider and was pretty sure that would be a great reason not to do the class. It was hard, way harder than it looks on any youtube video. Anyway off to class we went and they rode us over to this fantastic little known area of fun features, far away from the shredders. It was a great class that really started with fundamentals like bike/body separation, and body position which is so different from my roadie, tri background. I sorta learned to do front wheel lifts and the basics of how to do rear and both. We also worked on descending, braking, and switchbacks. The class went by so fast with so many skills to work on.
After the class I got a video of Kyle jumping:

Roots....
I rode over the roots, through some mud puddles, throw in a few wooden bridges and some downhill speed and it was a great day. We rode Town Trail with Kerri and Kael, a nice double track to a great view of the lake, and another trail I think was Pine Knot before and after Town Trail. Pine Knot was some pretty flowy single track that was lots of fun. And not to forget the best part--lunch out! I think it's the first time in 2 1/2 months Amangela's was the best!

Wheels
I rode the Megatower a little, it's a 29er and I'm riding a 27, there's always this wheel issue when you're short, especially on the road, maybe not so much on a mountain bike. Let me tell you though, I loved the 29er. What I liked is it just eats up the rocks and the obstacles, so if you're a less skilled rider maybe you don't have to be quite so careful. That may also have to do with the travel, I'm not sure what it is on the Megatower but I'm assuming it's a lot. Another thing about this bike--electronic shifting. There's not much to say about electronic shifting, just do it, it's amazing. The electronic dropper post is pretty cool too, but to be honest I'm not sure I could tell a lot of difference.
Conventional wisdom is that 27 wheels turns better, this is probably true, I didn't ride long enough, with enough turns on the 29er to make that call. What I think though, is not having to be quite as careful with your line may compensate for it. I don't know but, I do know Craig is going to love this bike.
Edit: By the way that's three new bikes in one week, just a few more of you need some new wheels, what else can you do in quarantine?

GoPro Dust
I dusted off the GoPro and got a little serious about learning to use it with Brent here to tutor me. He left me with the advice to use it all the time and watch one youtube video a day; so here I am, as puzzled, stumped, stymied as ever. I took it out to this morning to San Timoteo, they've opened some of the trails and so we hiked the nature preserve today. I took lots of short clips and managed to let the GoPro create the video for me, not bad, they even put the music in. But....I can't get the video out of the app, I'm not sure if the file is too big or maybe my computer is too not updated. My first video was Papa giving Reese a KitKat right before they had to leave--favorite grandpa! I'm going to try to put it on here.

Novato
After we finished up we did some hiking near Stinson Beach and started towards home. The one thing I didn't want to do was drive through the city in the beast, as luck would have it for some reason we got routed through the city. Imagine the surface streets with no traffic, it was kinda surreal.
Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve--this is just outside of Santa Maria and the beach is beautiful. The surrounding dunes are home to nesting birds. This area is surrounded by strawberry farms.
More driving than anything but we did get a good hike and a beach walk with a little bird viewing.
How do you like the 1 Up? Checking out step stools as we speak, which probably defeats the purpose of the extra storage in the gigantic box. #vanlife
